 VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Hello everyone this is Breanna Rutter author of one of my most popular book The Natural Bible and founder of howtoblackhair.com for these videos I answer the questions you all send me via email so if you have any questions you would like for me to answer check out the description box below for more information because this video is because of an email that I received from Jasmine and Jasmine wonders if she uses weaves to grow her natural hair if it's actually going to help her hair grow or if that even works as far as helping her to retain length so of course yes and I'm going to give you some tips and things that I want you to incorporate if you are going to be wearing weaves to grow your hair so first thing first that weaves are one of the best ways to transition and to grow out your hair whether you have natural hair or relaxed hair for a lot of women and men who are trying to grow their hair out who would like to wear weaves wearing weaves is one of the best ways to actually achieve length that you would like to stop your hair from him experiencing any damage because this is a low manipulation hairstyle a low manipulation hairstyle that can be created and maintained for a long period of time without having to detangle and comb through your hair and actually manipulate your hair to do so so weaves is your best bet if you want to keep your hands out of your hair and also limit any damage you are experiencing now the flip side to wearing weaves is a lot of people feel like it doesn't help any damages there hair because it is one important thing that you have to remember if you are going to be wearing weaves for an extended period of time you have to make sure get in there to shampoo condition and moisturize your hair especially if you are wearing a style that popularly like a sewin style you have to make sure that you're able to get shampoo at your root area at your scalp area that you are able to clean and condition your hair and this depends for a variety of reasons on the way your extensions are installed such as if they're being sewn on a Wig cap a weaving net or just on your braids in this situation it is great to make sure that your extensions are sewn just to your braid pattern so there is not much of any conflict with any other material getting in the way for you to be able to wash and condition your scalp now even if you're wearing a net you can still get in there just as long as you bring your products down to a watery consistency always do this always bring your shampoos and conditioners and things down to a watery consistency with the help of an applicator bottle just puts a little part in them with a little bit of water and make sure they are able to reach her scalp with that water and gently massaging your scalp if you can reach or the outside of the net with your fingers actually lift up any dandruff or debris a product buildup and things like that so it is very important that you keep your hair and scalp clean and moisturize so when you taking down your after a month or two months don't have any breakage, now my very last thing is that this is one of the most important parts of protective styling or doing weaves to to grow out your natural hair is that when you're in between weaves make sure that you're following the protocol to do your deep conditionings and protein treatment and stuff like that but one really important element you have to keep in mind is that if you want to continue to gain more length which is called retaining length you have to trim your ends now if you are ends are not in bad shape just lightly dust which means that you cut off about an eighth of an inch right off the bottom so you literally just skimming the very bottom of your ends to make sure they're not very dry or that they're not breaking or beginning to split so if you stay on top of keeping your trims then just dust trim in between each sew in for each install that you're wearing while protective styling so I hope you understand that this is probably the best way that you can actually grow your hair a lot of women do it even I do it I like to keep my hair in braids or in twists or in weaves to help me retain length as well so good luck on a hair journey and for everyone else is watching share your experience with styles that has worked for you for retaining length style they didn't do so good because I love to hear what you have to say about it so until then make sure you all sign up for my email list so that way you can be automatically entered into giveaways that I do and only there to update you while exclusive content so that's it for this video and I'll see you all in my very next
