Hello everyone this is Breanna Rutter author of one of my most popular books the natural hair Bible and founder of howtoblackhair.com for these videos I answer the questions that you all send me via email so if any of you have any questions that you would like for me to answer be sure to check out the description box for more information this video is dedicated to a viewer named Akai she emailed me saying that she has relaxed hair she's getting ready to take down her box braids in two weeks and she wants to color really bad she was a vibrant red color she wants to know if it's safe to do even though her friends are telling her that her hair is going to fallout she wonders if it's not going to fall out if she does it a certain way she wants some advice before she puts color into her hair so I'm gonna tell you what to do what not to do and what I think about the whole coloring your hair while it's relaxed hair so first off relaxed here already naturally damaged in a sense from using chemical relaxers you can have healthy relaxed hair but when you are putting a relaxer on it's like controlling the amount of damage that's happening so that way it forces your hair structure to change and be permanently straightened this makes your hair automatically weaker than it would be in its natural form now if you put color onto that and you bleach it you want to ruin your hair the thing is that you want shedding is going to get really damaged it just may turn it a frizz ball fry up fallout melt whatever it some horror stories as far as it goes when adding color to relax hair for a lot of reasons your hair is already in a weakened state and then when you bleach your stripping it even more if you want to do everything you can to keep your hair healthy I would not suggest bleaching your hair to add color but my second option that's going to be best for you is if you apply a rinse this is perfectly safe for relaxed hair because rinses deposit color to the outside of your hair shaft whether than actually penetrating your hair and changing the structure of your hair so if you have relaxed here and make sure that it's healthy before you do this you want to apply a rinse now depending on how light or dark your rinse is and also the color of your hair will will determine the type of result you will see so if you have black hair and you apply a red temporary color which is a rinse dye then your hair won't be as vibrant as the bottle may show because you have to actually take the black color out of your hair and then deposit a new color into it to actually get it that vibrant red color you want don't do that if you have relaxed hair another option you can do which I'm not sure if you want to do it but if you want colored hair more than you desire keeping relaxed hair than I will suggest that you go natural with your hair and then coloring in order to get that vibrant color you want you first have to bleach your hair if it's already dark-colored now you are at an dvantage if you're naturally a blonde and or naturally a very light brown color hair you can put a temporary rinse on your hair and get as close to a vibrant colors you want but the thing is that if you're relaxed you cant do that I cannot suggest you to add such a process to your hair because it won't help you to maintain healthy hair it'll do more bad than good so you can go natural and then add bleach and then transfer with that color so that way you can have that vibrant red but not a vibrant red for relaxed hair now another option is that you don't had any color you are to afraid which most people should because you want to be careful when you're on color treating relaxed hair is that you can actually use just colored hair extensions so next time you get box braids you can braid in some red braiding hair you could even kind of do and ombre into it you can start off with black braiding hair and then you can start add little pieces of red braiding hair along the way to make it look as if it's in ombre braid so the choices are so vastly open when you want to add color with your extension it's so much safer to do that than trying to make your hair be this vibrant color especially when you are going for vibrant colors you have to lift the color of the hair and that is very very damaging so of course everything is up to your discretion whether you choose to do not I would not suggest that you should get that vibrant red color with your relaxed hair but instead use a rinse and be more accepting of more of a natural looking red tones to your hair and on but it's all up to you so thank you for email I hope that has helped that it has clarified a lot of issues that you are having about understanding the difference between colors and such like that so thanks and once again I want to thank you all for watching these videos and if you have any other questions leave them down below are also you can contact me through my website but before you
