Cold Weather Hair Care Tips NO WEAVE NO BRAIDS!

Breanna Rutter

Corisa is 2 years natural and Canada’s cold weather makes it hard in the health of her hair and she wants some techniques to keep her hair healthy and maintained without the need of extensions

#1 Extreme temperature negatively affects your strands of hair

Temperature affects your hair in way that raises your cuticles or causes them to flatten. When your hair is in a warm or hot environment, it causes your cuticles and raise and also cause your hair to swell if there is humidity or water present. When in a cold environment, the cuticles on your hair shaft will flatten to protect your inner hair shaft.

#2 Keep your hair sealed with hair oils best for your texture of curl pattern

Keeping your hair sealed with oils makes a world of a difference especially when caring for curly and kinky hair. Heavier oils and butters work best on hair that is has tight coils or curls while lighter oils and hair butters work best on looser curled and kinked hair. Refer to my book The Black Hair Manual if you want to know which oils are best for your specific type of hair.

#3 Protective styles as often as possible; Mini twists, Braids and Bantu Knots

Protective styling is called that name for a reason and it does just that, protect the hair from further manipulation and damage caused by the environment. Protective styling also protects the hair against harsh temperatures whether you live in hot or cold climates. Refer to my website for naturally protecting hairstyle tutorials.
